Shawn Laher is an Information Technology (IT) professional. Shawn started his career in the US Navy as a communications specialist and ultimately as a classroom instructor, teaching new service members electronic theory, network communications, systems installation, and support. Shawn exited the military to attend The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Management of Information Systems (MIS).
Shawn has seven years of experience in multiple internal audit roles, most recently as a manager on the Cardinal Health Internal Audit Team. Shawn recently left Cardinal Health to pursue a career in independent IT consulting, focusing specifically on IT improvement projects and compliance. His compliance work includes IT “infrastructure” systems (e.g. network, OS, database, storage, backup systems), IT governance (policy and regulatory compliance), IT security processes, and numerous enterprise applications.
Shawn is an experienced professional who collaborates with business and IT leadership to document business processes and evaluate them. He is very familiar with IT risk, control, governance, development, and support processes. He is adept at communicating with business and technical managers, and translating IT and business vernacular. He composes clear and comprehensive reports that summarize business and IT operations, and the effectiveness of associated risk mitigation efforts. He is accustomed to managing project tasks to a scheduled time frame.
Ultimately, Shawn is an analyst who naturally evaluates processes and systems, and sees the improvement opportunities within them. The traits and the skills developed from his systems management and auditing experience transfer fluidly into a myriad of IT positions.
